The conference's scope spans special needs associated with speech, motor, hearing, and vision impairments; cognitive limitations; emotional and learning disabilities; and aging. Researchers and developers, from both academia and industry, are invited to meet to exchange ideas and present reports on new hardware and/or software advances related to these areas. Professor Alan Newell of the University of Dundee will be the conference Keynote Speaker. Professor Newell has a distinguished career that has spanned more than 30 years of work on assistive technologies. He is a popular speaker and we are delighted that he will be participating in Assets 2002. The conference program includes paper presentations, a poster session, demos, a panel and a host of social events. The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel situated along the Royal Mile in the center of Edinburgh. Located between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, the hotel will allow attendees to experience the heritage and tradition of Scotland. The hotel will be accessible to all participants
